Antiques Appraisal Program...Coming Soon!

On Sunday September 28th, the Marathon County Public Library will be once again hosting WHAT IT'S WORTH; THE ANTIQUES APPRAISAL PROGRAM! Antiques expert Mark Moran will be on hand to evaluate and appraise such items as toys, clocks, costume jewelry, artwork, vintage photographs and glassware. Mark will be available from 1:30 to 4:00 pm. The cost is $10.00 per item. That fee entitles the person to a four-minute consultation. Each additional item is $10.00 and, in turn, another four-minute consult. Registration is REQUIRED. Call (715) 261-7230 to register or for further information. If you don't have an item, please come and and sit in on the fun. Spectators are always welcome. See you there!

Antiques Appraisal Program is Coming to Town!

The Antiques Appraisal program has proven to be wildly popular with Marathon County Public Library customers. The program hosted by the Headquarters Library in the fall of 2013 was so successful that MCPL is bringing antiques expert Mark Moran back for another round of appraisals in the new year. On Saturday January 11th from 10:00am-4:00pm, Mark Moran will be available to evaluate items brought in by the public. The fee for appraisal is $10.00 per item which entitles the person to a four-minute consultation. Registration, as always, is required. Call 261-7234 to save your spots or for more information.

The last 2013 Antiques Roadshow program to be held at Marathon County Public Library is scheduled for Sunday September 22nd from 1:30 to 4:00. Anyone interested in bringing in an item or items to be appraised by antiques expecrt Mark Moran should call 261-7234 to register. Cost is $10.00 per item which buys you a four-minute consultation. Registration is required. If interested, call or stop into the Headquarters Library and sign up. Mark's schedule on the 22nd is filling up but there still are some openings left.

The Antiques Appraisal Roadshow held at the Headquarters Library on March 9th was a resounding success! Over 90 library customers brought in jewelry, paintings, dinnerware, furniture, toys and assorted nick-nacks for expert appraisals from antiques expert Mark Moran. The program was so successful and demand so great that Marathon County Public Library is bringing Moran back for a special, one-time fall program. This will be held Sunday September 22nd from 1:30 to 4:30. So, here's another opportunity to bring in that family heirloom and find out its true value. As always, registration is required. The cost will be ten dollars per item. That cost allows for a four-minute consultation....

If you couldn't make the What's it Worth? antiques appraisal program held at the Marathon County Public Library Saturday March 10, don't despair. It was such a success that MCPL is planning on making it an annual event! Almost 100 people took part in the program on March 10th. Marathon County residents brought 67 items in for examination and appraisal by antiques expert Mark Moran. Items included paintings, lamps, tapestries, toys, jewelry, bicycles, place settings, photographs and assorted other treasures. Some participants were pleasantly pleased with suggested values going as high as $1,800.00. Other items - alas! - had 'decorative value' only. All in all, it was a most interesting...

A reminder for antiques lovers: there's less than two weeks before the Antiques Appraisal Roadshow rolls into Marathon County Public Library. If you're planning on attending, you'd better call and register asap. Slots are running out. Mark Moran will be at the Wausau library on March 10th from 9:00am to 4:00pm to appraise items brought in by MCPL customers. The charge for each item is $10.00. The p4A Antiques Reference database, available for use at the Marathon County Public Library, will easily help you discover the current market value of these and many other items. Every record has a picture, description, condition, dimensions, pre-sale estimates, price when sold, date of sale and auction house information which helps you determine if you have a similar item. Use this database at any one of the 9 library locations in Wausau, Athens, Edgar, Hatley, Marathon, Mosinee, Rothschild, Spencer, and Stratford.
