While summer can be a busy season full of picnics, swimming, and other family activities, we hope you make Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) a part of your summer plans! Every year, we develop a Summer Program focused on learning, reading and fun for children and their families. The theme for this year’s program is “Oceans of Possibilities,” so we invite you to explore the library’s collections, join our summer reading club, and participate in any of our exciting upcoming events!

Reading is a great way for kids to keep their minds active and learning while out of school, and library staff can help your child find their next great read! Our staff is trained and well-versed in books of all types, so feel free to ask us—in person, by phone or online—for reading recommendations. You also may browse our online library catalog to request books for pickup, or visit any of our nine MCPL locations to check out our collections in person.

Kids can earn two free books by participating in our Summer Reading Club! June–August, complete two book reviews using paper review forms or the free Beanstack app or website, and show these reviews to library staff to receive a free book. Read and review another two books for a second free book. (Parents can read and complete reviews on behalf of younger children.) Also, pick up a free Children’s Activity Book at any MCPL location for a supply of review forms and additional learning activities, including a crossword, coloring page, cut outs, scavenger hunt and more.

We are excited to share that we have a full summer events calendar this year! Headlining this year are children’s musicians Tom Pease and Randy Peterson, both of whom will perform at several outdoor locations in Marathon County, featuring new songs, old favorites and lots of fun. Additionally, we’ve planned a variety of outdoor story times, a new tween book club, sidewalk chalk drawing, bubble experiments and more. We also will continue our popular Grab & Go activities—take-home kits to create a variety of crafts—including a DIY jellyfish, bejeweled treasure chest, 3-D goldfish and others.

Keep reading this summer, and visit your local MCPL for books, events and fun for the whole family!
