When you and your child finish reading a book or series, it can be difficult to decide what to read next. After all, new books are released every week and the vast amount of choices can be overwhelming. But one of our handy online resources can help give you some direction!
Among MCPL’s many online resources is Novelist K-8, which is a reader’s advisory resource that will recommend books to read based on ones you’d read in the past, similar to how Netflix and other streaming services recommend content based on your viewing habits. Just like the Novelist resource for adults, Novelist K-8 allows users to search for a book by title, author or keyword search, and then recommends a handful of books that are similar in genre, style and tone. The site also provides you with a short plot summary, lists the book’s genre, what themes it contains, gives a recommended age and grade level, and lists the book’s Lexile score. These details can help a parent or caregiver decide if a book will interest their child or if it will be too easy or difficult.
This resource can be accessed through our website any time of day (even from the comfort of your own home), so you never have to wait to find your next read. And of course, our helpful staff can also help recommend titles, too!
