June 21, 2020
In keeping with the recommendations of the State of Wisconsin, the Marathon County Health Department and other public health authorities, the Marathon County Public Library and its eight branch libraries will be open by appointment on June 22, as previously announced.
Our Wausau location will offer appointments for computer use only. Appointments can be made for up to one hour per person per day. Browsing for materials will not be permitted at this time. To make an appointment, call the MCPL Wausau reference desk at 715-261-7230.
Patrons visiting one of the eight branch libraries can make an appointment of 30 minutes per week, which can be used either for computer use or for browsing for materials (since the branch libraries are smaller and easier to sanitize). To make an appointment, call your local branch for appointment availability.
Appointments at both Wausau and the branches can be made same day, or up to one week in advance. For a list of hours that appointments will be available, click here.
Some important things to keep in mind when you visit:
All MCPL staff members will be wearing masks in the areas of the library.
Beginning August 1, 2020, masks will be required for all patrons visiting an MCPL location, in accordance with Governor Evers' Emergency Order #1
All computers will be sanitized between uses.
You will need to show either your library card or an ID to enter the building.
Patrons will not be allowed to enter the building before their scheduled appointment time.
We ask that no food or drink be brought into the building at this time.
Copy machines and microfilm will not be available for use at this time.
Staff will sanitize touch points such as door handles regularly throughout the day.
Your health, and the health of our employees, is our highest priority. These safety precautions and procedures will be reviewed by the Library Board of Trustees on a monthly basis. Restrictions will continue to be changed based upon the best practices and recommendations of local and state health authorities. The next board meeting will be held on July 20, 2020, to review the current precautions and make additional recommendations as we work toward fully reopening to our patrons.
