tax forms and tax preparation materials

January 11, 2020

With the new year comes tax time! We’ve already had many requests for tax forms at our library locations but the forms have still not arrived. In general, most tax forms arrive between the third week of January and the first week of February. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) notifies the library of shipping dates; this year our tax forms will be shipped beginning on January 21. It may take several weeks to receive all the forms we have requested however, in the past, our forms have arrived together. In the meantime, there some important things to remember: January 27 is the first day that the IRS will accept tax returns. This is also the first day that online fillable forms will be...

While we do not know when they will arrive, we can tell you that the forms have been requested. In the meantime, this year's state tax forms can be downloaded and printed from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue website. You can do that at home or we can print them off for you at...

Tax Forms Update!

January 28, 2014

To all those taxpayers wondering if the IRS stagecoach bearing the 1040/1040A/1040EZ booklets has arrived at the Marathon County Public Library, the answer, unfortunately, is: NO. The IRS has informed MCPL that the three booklets will not be shipped until mid-February. The IRS originally promised the booklets would be available in mid-January. They gave no explanation for the delay. However, the booklets can be ordered from the IRS or downloaded on home computers at the website.

Tax Forms 2012 Summary!

May 1, 2013

Every year the Headquarters and eight branches of the Marathon County Public Library provide free paper copies of common federal and state tax forms to county residents. This year, MCPL furnished over 28,000 forms at the Wausau location alone; which equates to boxes and boxes and boxes of 1040 forms, 1040-EZs, Wisconsin Form 1, rent certificates and so on! However, both the Internal Revenue Service and Wisconsin Department of Revenue are increasingly emphasizing that tax-filers file electronically. In recent years, both agencies have limited the number and variety of tax forms MCPL can order for the public. It is very conceivable that, in the near future, one or both agencies may stop providing tax forms...

Tax Form Trivia!

May 11, 2009

Every year the Marathon County headquarters library and eight branches provide federal and state tax forms to our customers. Indeed MCPL is one of the last sites remaining in Marathon County providing this service. Between December 26, 2008 and April 16, 2009, MCPL locations provided over 65,000 federal and state forms to our customers. The Wausau headquarters alone accounted for 60,000 of that total. Though the IRS would like everyone to file electronically, it looks like paper is here to stay...for a while longer!

Income Tax Filing Deadline is April 17

April 10, 2007

The income tax filing deadline is fast approaching, but this year you have two extra days to file. Taxes are not due until April 17. Why? April 15 falls on a Sunday so an extra day is given for Sunday. Monday, April 16 is Emancipation Day, a legal holiday in the District of Columbia, so another day was added. So, Wednesday April 17 is the the tax filing date this year. The Library has tax forms but our supply is running low. We also have reproducible forms for filing Federal and State individual income taxes that can be photocopied. The Library's 100 Year Birthday Party is on Sunday April 15 at the Wausau Library and we anticipate that it will be busy, so Sunday may not be the best day to pick up your...
