Children's literature can be a difficult category to describe, since it consists of everything from board books for infants and picture books for beginning readers to graphic novels and series like Dork Diaries for middle schoolers and tweens. Many book series remain popular year after year, including the Harry Potter, Big Nate and Captain Underpants series, with many of these books being checked out again and again and again.
There are also plenty of incredible reads that are popular but not part of a book series, such as Peter Brown's The Wild Robot, R.J. Palacio's Wonder, Kelly Barnhill's The Girl Who Drank the Moon and Sara Pennypacker's Pax, to name a few. Those books might be popular with today's youth but since they aren't part of a popular series, often lack the amount of checkouts needed to make the top 10 list of the most-checked out books.
This year's list of the most checked-out children's books at MCPL consist of everything from Barbie to Batman to Disney princesses. The author that reigns supreme on this list, though, is Jeff Kinney, who has FOUR titles from his Diary of a Wimpy Kid series on the list.
Did your family read any of the titles listed below? What did you think of them? Sound off in the comments and let us know!
