Today, June 1, the U.S. government has implemented the second phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. All U.S. citizens 16 and over entering the United States by land or sea need to have a passport book or passport card. This means if you are planning to travel by land or sea to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, or the Caribbean region you now need a passport book or passport card.
This is an addition to the requirement that all U.S. citizens traveling outside of the United States by air need to present a valid U.S passport book to enter or re-enter the United States.
The Marathon County Public Library is a Passport Acceptance Facility. We will be happy to assist you with your passport applications all hours that the Wausau location is open. The Library is open Monday--Thursday 9:00am--8:30pm, and Saturday 9:00am--1:00pm during the Summer. For further information (and forms) please check our U.S. Passport Application Acceptance Service page or call 715-261-7230, email, or chat with any of the Passport Acceptance Agents at the library.
For your convenience, the Library is also able to take your passport pictures and assist you with your passport renewals. Routine passport applications are currently taking 4-6 weeks for the U.S. Department of State to process.
