If MCPL joins the South Central Library System (SCLS), the online catalog that patrons use to look up, request, and renew items will change.

However, LINKcat (the online catalog that most SCLS libraries use) is similar to V-Cat (the online catalog that WVLS libraries use), and is considered to be very user-friendly.

In addition to being able to search LINKcat by Title, Author Name and Subject/Key word, users can also search by ISBN (the identification number given to a specific edition of a book). Each item that appears on the results page also features cover art to help you identify the exact item you’re looking for, and users have the ability to narrow down their search results by publication date, author name, genre, where the item is located, and more.

On January 25, 2021, the Library Board voted to approve a motion for the Marathon County Public Library (MCPL) to join the South Central Library System (SCLS). The 4-3 vote was preceded by a year-long analysis by the Library System Task Force, which was formed in January 2020 to thoroughly examine the cost and benefits of joining SCLS.
