An Ember in the Ashes

Staff Review: An Ember in the Ashes

"An Ember in the Ashes" by Sabaa Tahir

Cover: 'An Ember in the Ashes'

This is the story of Elias, a soldier for the Martial Empire, and Laia, a slave for the Martial Empire. Their lives are separate and lived with separate purpose until their paths cross. They begin to realize that they are much more similar than they once had thought and destiny seems to lead them to one another. As a debut novel by this newcomer to the Young Adult fiction world, Sabaa Tahir is a standout with her original story telling and compelling characters. It is extraordinarily well thought out and hard to put down. Hands down, this is one of the best YA dystopian books I have read in a while. I would give it a 4.5 stars if given the option. Guys and girls, young and old will enjoy this novel equally as it provides stunning details into the life of a military academy as well as offers a bit of romance too. I definitely recommend this to everyone.
