Staff Review: Just what kind of mother are you?
In Paula Daly's debut novel, we are introduced to Kate, an overwhelmed and overworked mother of three, who in the chaos of daily life not only forgets that her daughter's best friend was supposed to sleepover, but wakes up the next day to find that she is missing. After a young girl had recently been kidnapped and seen walking back into town with telltale signs of experiencing a horrible ordeal, Kate and the rest of the town are thrown into panic. What follows is a fast paced thriller told through the eyes of Kate, the kidnapper, and a local female detective racing to find the missing girl. Although I was a bit disappointed as a reader that the author didn't reveal more about the kidnapper, the twist at the end of the novel was not only surprising but compelling as well in the message it gave about friendship, motherhood, and the length to which human nature wants to protect both.
