Katie the Catsitter

Cover: 'Katie the Catsitter'

Staff Review: "Katie the Catsitter" by Colleen A.F. Venable

As a cat-loving owner of three awesome cats myself, I first picked up this graphic novel because of the cat theme that clearly shines through on the cover. Readers meet Katie, who's desperate to get out of New York City and join her best friends at summer camp. The only problem is, she has no money to pay for it, so she works hard to find as many jobs as she can through her neighbors. After a couple of disastrous attempts at jobs (who knew plants could be so picky?!), Katie lands on a seemingly perfect job: cat sitting for her mysterious neighbor. But what seems like an easy way to earn money for summer camp turns into the greatest adventure Katie's had, with some really cute companions to help her along the way!

This was such a fun graphic novel that packed a punch with themes of friendship, adventure, bravery, and animal rights, all while being funny and relatable for young readers. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series!

Audience: tweens | Genre: graphic novel, fiction
