Central Wisconsin Book Festival
"From Boxing Ring to Boardroom" With Héctor Colón

Adults & Teens

The Central Wisconsin Book Festival welcomes boxing champ and non-profit leader Héctor Colón for an engaging and inspiring talk straight from his own life story and his 2020 book!

Colón grew up in Milwaukee and became a champion boxer who won seven national titles with the U.S. Boxing Team and competed in the 1992 Olympic trials. He stepped away from the sport to follow his faith and his career in public service includes time as Executive Director of the Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services and currently as President and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan (LSS). He also serves on the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System.

He'll join us to share the story of his challenging childhood to his rise in the ring and beyond, much of it detailed in his book "My Journey From Boxing Ring To Boardroom: 5 Virtues For Life And Leadership." He'll discuss not only virtues such as perseverance and humility, but also his faith and his efforts to move LSS from a legacy of debt into one of the largest non-profits in the Midwest. We'll also have time for questions and Héctor will sign copies of his book.

This event is free and open to the public. Click the "Attend" button on this page to join the event once it begins! Call the Marathon County Public Library at 715-261-7230 for more information.
