Central Wisconsin Book Festival An Evening With U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo

Joy Harjo

Central Wisconsin Book Festival
An Evening With U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo

Adults

The Central Wisconsin Book Festival is thrilled to welcome U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo for a virtual reading of her work!

Harjo, a member of the Mvskoke (Creek) Nation, was named poet laureate of the United States in 2019 and is the first American Indian named to the position. She's an internationally renowned performer and writer, author of nine poetry books, several plays and a couple of children's books. Oh, and she's also a musician!

Joy will read some of her work - including poems from her newest acclaimed collection "An American Sunrise" - and a Q&A will follow. Even though she can't join us in person, we're also working on ways to get signed copies of her books to the public. This is a great chance for literature lovers in central Wisconsin to directly see and hear our nation's poetry ambassador!

Free and open to the public. More information on how to view this event will be coming soon! Call 715-261-7230 for more information.

Support for the 2020 Central Wisconsin Book Festival was provided through the Community Arts Grant Program of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, with funds provided by the Wisconsin Arts Board, a state agency; the Community Foundation; and the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation.

Support also provided by the Murco Foundation Fund, the Marathon County Public Library Foundation, the Friends of the Marathon County Public Library and Wisconsin Public Radio.
