CWBF & WIPPS: The Women's Suffragist Movement With Rebecca Roberts
The Central Wisconsin Book Festival is pleased to partner once again with the Wisconsin Institute for Public Policy and Service (WIPPS)!
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, the WIPPS will host a series of public virtual events in the fall of 2020 featuring speakers well-versed in the history of the movement, representing both the national and state level perspectives.
The series begins with a presentation by Rebecca Roberts, journalist and author of "Suffragists in Washington, DC: The 1913 Parade and the Fight for the Vote." The book is a vivid narrative of the heroic struggle of Alice Paul and the National Woman's Party as they worked to earn the vote, framed by the demonstration known as The Great Suffrage Parade. The Great Suffrage Parade was the first civil rights march to use the nation's capital as a backdrop. Roberts will read selections from her book and share her research into this historical effort.
Free and open to the public. Information on how to view this event is coming soon! Call 715-261-6368 for more information.
Support for the 2020 Central Wisconsin Book Festival was provided through the Community Arts Grant Program of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, with funds provided by the Wisconsin Arts Board, a state agency; the Community Foundation; and the B.A. & Esther Greenheck Foundation.
