The Marathon County Public Library and Central Wisconsin Book Festival is proud to partner with the North Central Area Congregations Organized to Make an Impact (NAOMI) for a community read initiative and two panel discussions about homelessness in the greater Wausau area.

Beginning around Sept. 1, MCPL will be distributing free copies of the book "Wild Counselor" by Merrill author Jim Finucan. The memoir tells the story of Finucan's father, once a prominent attorney who fell into homelessness and struggled with a mental breakdown. Patrons can pick up a copy of Wild Counselor via curbside pickup at MCPL Wausau with no appointment needed, with a few copies available at MCPL branches, where patrons must call ahead for a pickup appointment.

NAOMI also has organized two virtual panel discussions on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 - both beginning at 3 p.m. - based on the book that will take place during the book festival, featuring local elected officials and law enforcement and representatives from the non-profit sector, aimed at fostering a greater understanding of the issue of homelessness in the greater Wausau area.

Scheduled to participate in the panel discussions are: Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg; Wausau Police Chief Ben Bliven; Ben Lee, United Way of Marathon County; Tracy Rieger, Catholic Charities Wausau Warming Center; Dan Mills, Beyond Shelter Program; Pam Anderson. Point in Time Homeless Count; Anne Drow, Open Door; and author Jim Finucan.

The panel discussions will be free to view, and information on how to tune in will be coming soon. For more information, visit the NAOMI website or their Facebook page.
