How do I access library computers or Wi-Fi?

FAQ: How do I access library computers or Wi-Fi?

Answer:

If you have an account with MCPL (or any other V-Cat library):

  • Log in using your 14-digit library card number and your PIN/password. If you don't have this with you, a government-issued ID may suffice.

  • MCPL patrons are granted one hour of computer use per day, but time extensions are granted automatically and indefinitely unless the computer lab is full and other patrons are waiting to use a computer.

  • If there are no computers available, you may ask library staff for assistance reserving the next available computer, or you may wish to check out a laptop or tablet.

  • If your account has $25 or more in fines, computer access is blocked.

If you do not have an account:

  • Apply for a library card online or in person.

  • If applying for an account is not an option (out of state visitor, no permanent address, etc.), you may request a two-hour guest pass to use the computers.  Guest passes only work once, and you may not receive more than one per day. Patrons with library accounts may not receive a guest pass.

Please note:

  • The library's Wi-Fi network is free to use without the need to log in.

  • Library resource computers are available to access the library catalog and online resources without the need to log in.

  • If you need to use a computer for job searching or filing unemployment, but are unable to access library computers for any reason, you may be permitted to use the computers in the Career Connection at MCPL Wausau (at staff discretion).
