FAQ: How do I access library computers or Wi-Fi?
To access the library's lab computers:
- If you have a library account with MCPL (or any other V-Cat library):
Log in using your 14-digit library card number and your PIN/password (usually the last four numbers of your phone number). If you don't have this with you, a government-issued ID is required in order to have a staff member access your account.
MCPL patrons are granted one hour of computer use per day, but time extensions are granted automatically and indefinitely unless the computer lab is full and other patrons are waiting to use a computer.
If there are no computers available, you may ask library staff for assistance reserving the next available computer, or you may wish to check out a laptop or tablet.
If your account has $25 or more in fines, computer access is blocked.
- If you do not have an account:
Apply for a library card online or in person.
If applying for an account is not an option (out of state visitor, no permanent address, etc.), you may request a two-hour guest pass to use the computers. Guest passes are good for a one-time login, and you may receive only one guest pass per day. Once you log out, you will not be able to get a new guest pass or log in again, regardless of how much time you used.
Patrons with library accounts may not receive a guest pass. If your account has expired, you will be asked to renew it at the main desk.
Wi-Fi access may be possible from outside of the library (e.g. the parking lot, municipal facilities and nearby outdoor areas) at all MCPL branches 24/7, and at MCPL Wausau Mon.-Thu., 7 a.m.–7:55 p.m.; Fri., 7 a.m.–4:55 p.m.; and Sat., 8:00 a.m.–4:55 p.m.
